Something OLD

Monday, September 30: Share a photo of something old. Maybe something that has personal history for you, that was passed down to you, and that has special meaning to you. Tell us about it and why it's special.

My wedding ring is special to me and it was passed down to me as well.  It is inscribed with the wording "Roy to Helen 8/28/30"  This was my Great Grandmother's ring and I think it is really cool that I get to use it now as my wedding ring.  This ring is 83 years old and still beautiful!

My 2nd wedding anniversary is tomorrow on October first too!
I think we will probably go out to dinner, something simple.

If you want to see our wedding check out these links Part one, Part two, Part three, and our first wedding anniversary you can see here.

So Far...

So far this weekend we have worked on the baby room, went to a friends birthday party and I have freaked out about our health insurance fee going up!  Its going up from 120 a month to 220 a month!  I am going to have to look into the state aid program or something else!  There is no way we are going to pay that much money its crazy.

My plan today is to work on some art and hopefully finish the baby closet so all the stuff we pulled out of there can go back in.

We are super excited about the last Breaking Bad episode ever, I can't wait to find out what happens.

All the junk that needs to find a new home or find its way back into the closet.
The super cute curtains my mom and I made!
We need to paint this asap!

Happy and Sad

This is today's prompt:
Thursday, September 26: Go to a coffee shop. Order a favorite drink. Write about what makes you happy and what makes you sad. Or write about anything you'd like! Bonus points for including a photo from the coffee shop. (I recommend downloading Ommwriter and bringing headphones along!) *if you can't make it to a coffee shop, at least leave your usual space and write someplace new.

I have decided that this will be impossible to do because 1. I work... 2. I am pregnant and can't drink caffeine.  So I will just write about what makes me happy or sad.

Happy (its the simple things that make me happy)
  • A Clean house
  • A new hair cut
  • Finishing an art project
  • No traffic
  • An easy day at work
  • A home cooked meal (cooked by someone other than me)
  • My favorite TV shows starting a new season
  • Finding a great new outfit
  • Hanging out with family and friends
  • Going on vacation
  • A new season starting
  • ext ext ...
Sad
  • Watching the news
  • When I lived over seas I was sad all the time missing my family
I guess that's it, turns out I am happy way more than I am sad!  I am really happy today is Thursday and we only have one more day of work this week woo hoo!
This picture makes me happy! =)

HMMM A Mistake?

Wednesday, September 25: Write about a time you screwed up - a mistake you made.

It is hard to think of a time that I made a mistake, or at least a mistake that really stands out to me.  I make small mistakes all the time, like last week when I had to do one load of laundry 3 times because I kept forgetting it in the washer!

I guess one thing that really stands out to me as a mistake or maybe more like the wrong choice, was about a year in a half ago I took a job that I really hated.  Now I have a job that I really like so I guess everything happens for a reason.  We had just moved back from NZ and got married and I started looking for jobs.  It was not easy to find a job at the time, there was literally nothing out there!  I signed up to some agencies that were no help at all and I finally started looking on Craig's list.  I went on about 5 interviews and on one particular day I went on 2 interviews in one day.

The first job got back to me right away offering me the job at a childcare center as the front desk assistant.  The other job I had applied to was a really cool company that did marketing for movies.  Because I was so ready to start working and getting paid I immediately took the first offer with the childcare place.  This was the wrong choice for a lot of reasons! Everyone who worked there was very clicky and not very helpful.  Its like they expected me to pick up the job with no training and no help, every time I would ask a question I was given a look like I was an idiot so I started trying to figure it out on my own which of course made me really slow.  It was just a horrible environment to work in.  To this day I wish I had waited to hear what the other company was going to offer me.  The offer might have been nothing or it could have been really cool and I will never know!  I guess at the time there was no way of knowing what would have happened, but if I am ever in that situation again I will definitely stall until I can find out all of my options instead of just rushing into something. And another thing I learned is I will never stay at a job I hate just because its a job, I stayed at that job way too long trying to make it work when it was never going to.  I stayed because I was scared to not have a job and really I should have just left and started applying to other places.

Right after that job ended literally a week later I found the job I am in now, so just proves that when something ends most of the time it opens you up for something better!

Cake and Flags!

Bitter is the New Black

Tuesday, September 24: Review a book, place, or product.

So I guess I will review a book.  It has been a while since I read this book, but I loved it soo much.
Bitter is the New Black is an awesome book by Jen Lancaster.  I loved this book so much I didn't want it to end.  I think its great because its funny, but real at the same time.  I have read many of her other books and I didn't feel any of them really compared to how great this one is.  If you feel like a light read that is really hysterical I would defiantly give this a try!

The Weekend, life lately.....

This was a fun weekend where I feel I got a lot done, well at least I finished the NHRA drawings that I had looming over my head for so long.  Now that those are done I can focus on doing fun art for my Etsy shop.
Here is my kitchen Sunday morning,
My mom got us our first baby stuff! Cute outfits, a photo album and the softest blanket in the world.

Grant worked on the baby's closet.  Before it looked like the picture below, 2 huge doors you could barely move and one fat rod that you could never fit a baby hanger on.

After it looks awesome! Now we have shelves (not all of them are in yet) and 3 different height rods to hang the clothes on.  It still has to be painted, but I am so excited its almost done.  Soon there will be cute baby things in there!
I had some time today to do some painting so soon I will be adding this to my Etsy store!

The weekend is almost over but thank goodness we have Breaking Bad to look forward to tonight!

Comfort

Friday, September 20: React to this term: comfort.

My current reaction to this term would be yes please!  I would love to feel comfortable!  I don't think I have felt comfortable since the day I found out I was pregnant.  I am not complaining, but I am just saying with all the changes that are happening constantly in my body I do not ever feel comfortable even for one moment.  I am looking forward to when the baby is born and my body can go back to feeling normal.  My vision of comfort is a big comfy bed with lots of squishy pillows and a big down comforter to snuggle in on a cold day!  Waiting for that day I get to sleep on my stomach again lol.

This looks super comfy! Find the image here

Baby Room Ideas

I don't really like today's prompt for the September writing challenge so I am skipping it and I am going to instead post about how we or rather I am thinking of decorating the baby's room.  I know I have a lot of time still to think about this, but I have decided to go with a beach/nautical/surf theme.

I am going to try to stick with blues greys and whites for the color pallet.  I want a white crib and I am thinking a blue toned rug and hopefully I can find blue and white striped curtains.  This way as our baby grows and has his own style we can easily change out the few decorations we get and not have to chage the whole room.

I am thinking of painting up a cute sign similar to this one to hang on the wall.

I like this white crib, the blue and white rug and the nautical pictures.
I love these striped curtains and the large letter for the baby's name!  That would be so easy to make!
I showed these surfboard shelves to Grant and he said he can make them for me!  I am so excited I think they would look really cute over the changing table for supplies or even as they are used here just for decorations.

A Memory to Relive

Tuesday, September 17: A memory you would love to relive.

I think I would like to relive the day that I met Grant for the first time.  I had just moved to New Zealand and the family I was nannying for took me to an All Blacks game.  It was such a fun experience to get to see a rugby game for the first time and live at that! After the game we went to a local bar where I was encouraged to go meet young people.  I remember watching the band and some people dancing.  One tall good looking guy was dancing and there was a girl near him, little did he know when he turned around all her friends pulled her off the stage and there he was dancing all by himself! It was soo funny, but he didn't seem to care he just kept going hahhaha. I remember telling Peter wow that guy has some courage just to dance by himself !  Later in the evening I was talking to a group of people and trying to make friends, which is harder than you think.  I kept looking at the tall guy giving him the eye.  You know the eye... where you try to make eye contact then look away then look back.  Well eventually it worked and he came over and started talking to me and he got my number.  I truly didn't think I would hear from him, but unlike American guys he actually text me the next day asking how I was and what I was up to.  He ended up asking me out, and boy was I shocked!  A few days later he came and picked me up and we went to a close bar for a few drinks just to talk and hang out.  It wasn't a date per se but more of a get to know eachother since that first night when we met I doubt either of us could really remember much.

The first meeting went great and he asked me if I wanted to go out the next night to a party that one of his friends was throwing and of course my answer was YES!  I really liked him right away, but to be honest I knew no one so I probably would have said yes no matter what just to meet people.  From that point on we started slowly dating and haning out more and more and fast forward 5 years we are now married and expecting our first baby! A BOY!

(This pic isn't from when we first met but its a good one of us)

Public Letter

Dear mom,

I love you! You are the best! You always know what to say and you are always there to help.  I feel like we are one person sometimes with the way we think.  I think that sums it up!

Love,
Shannon

Ways Blogging Has Changed You

Thursday, September 12: Discuss ways that blogging or social media has changed you.

I started this blog in 2008 because I was moving to another country and I wanted my family to know what was happening in my life as well as I wanted a record of what I did for my year abroad. Turned out that I loved blogging soo much that I have kept it up even though now my life isn't nearly as interesting.  What I like most about blogging is I can look back and see what I was doing years ago, its a way of keeping track of fun events.

Blogging changed me by opening me up to reading others blogs! When I started finding blogs about how to diet and how to craft it really opened my eyes to interesting things and to people who were just like me maybe living abroad or maybe very different than me, but very interesting all the same.  Now I follow a lot of blogs and I love reading peoples stories.  A lot of the time its like reading a book but its real and real time!
Its also a peak into someones life, makes me feel like hmm we are all very similar as people.

If your interested here are some links to some of my older posts from when I started!

Describe a distinct moment

Tuesday, September 10: Describe a distinct moment when your life took a turn.

Its hard to pick one moment when your life takes a turn because I feel like life is always taking quick turns, but the one moment I can think of is maybe when I went to college.  I can clearly remember packing all of my things into my car and my mom's car and driving to the dorms.  I can remember finding where I would be living and meeting my roommates for the first time.  I remember being very nervous and excited.  I think the first few days we all did a lot of group activities with not only our roommates but with everyone in the dorms and it was very different to be completely on my own.

My roommates and I instantly all became friends and it wasn't until the middle of the year when our real personalities came out and we realized we were closer to some people over others.  What I liked most about living in the dorms is there was always something going on and there was always something interesting happening.  Sometimes it was someone running in and crying saying they were dumped or it was someone running in screaming they got asked out on a date, but every time it was always interesting and drama filled lol.  I guess you could say there was never a dull moment, if we were bored next thing you know someone would say lets go swimming and we would be hopping a wall to a local apartment pool or we would decide to race around the dorms in the rain and see who came in first place.  I missed those fun times a lot when I graduated but now I can look back and think it was fun then and I have a different type of fun now, for me life seems to up and down certain periods of time were packed with fun while other periods of time are just average amounts of fun.  I think if life was constantly jam packed with fun and craziness we would get worn out.

Wet Towels and Personality

First a funny story, so Saturday I put in a load of towels to be washed, we forgot about them, so Sunday morning I start them again all over, then I put them in the dryer but I guess I never started it or something.  Grant then just takes them out wet? Why? and puts them in the basket and starts his load.  Now Sunday night I ask where are the towels, Grant goes and brings the basket up stairs I go to fold them and they are wet.  I ask why are they wet, he says there wet?  He says I don't know I just took them out I thought they were dry.   Um no they are wet... So now its 11pm and I am thinking what should I do with these wet towels lol.  Now we have to wait till tomorrow to wash them for a third time... Its good I see the humor in this.

Introverted iNtuitive Thinking Judging
by Marina Margaret Heiss
Profile: INTJ
Revision: 3.1
Date of Revision: 17 Oct 2009

To outsiders, INTJs may appear to project an aura of "definiteness", of self-confidence. This self-confidence, sometimes mistaken for simple arrogance by the less decisive, is actually of a very specific rather than a general nature; its source lies in the specialized knowledge systems that most INTJs start building at an early age. When it comes to their own areas of expertise -- and INTJs can have several -- they will be able to tell you almost immediately whether or not they can help you, and if so, how. INTJs know what they know, and perhaps still more importantly, they know what they don't know.
INTJs are perfectionists, with a seemingly endless capacity for improving upon anything that takes their interest. What prevents them from becoming chronically bogged down in this pursuit of perfection is the pragmatism so characteristic of the type: INTJs apply (often ruthlessly) the criterion "Does it work?" to everything from their own research efforts to the prevailing social norms. This in turn produces an unusual independence of mind, freeing the INTJ from the constraints of authority, convention, or sentiment for its own sake.
INTJs are known as the "Systems Builders" of the types, perhaps in part because they possess the unusual trait combination of imagination and reliability. Whatever system an INTJ happens to be working on is for them the equivalent of a moral cause to an INFJ; both perfectionism and disregard for authority may come into play, as INTJs can be unsparing of both themselves and the others on the project. Anyone considered to be "slacking," including superiors, will lose their respect -- and will generally be made aware of this; INTJs have also been known to take it upon themselves to implement critical decisions without consulting their supervisors or co-workers. On the other hand, they do tend to be scrupulous and even-handed about recognizing the individual contributions that have gone into a project, and have a gift for seizing opportunities which others might not even notice.
In the broadest terms, what INTJs "do" tends to be what they "know". Typical INTJ career choices are in the sciences and engineering, but they can be found wherever a combination of intellect and incisiveness are required (e.g., law, some areas of academia). INTJs can rise to management positions when they are willing to invest time in marketing their abilities as well as enhancing them, and (whether for the sake of ambition or the desire for privacy) many also find it useful to learn to simulate some degree of surface conformism in order to mask their inherent unconventionality.
Personal relationships, particularly romantic ones, can be the INTJ's Achilles heel. While they are capable of caring deeply for others (usually a select few), and are willing to spend a great deal of time and effort on a relationship, the knowledge and self-confidence that make them so successful in other areas can suddenly abandon or mislead them in interpersonal situations.
This happens in part because many INTJs do not readily grasp the social rituals; for instance, they tend to have little patience and less understanding of such things as small talk and flirtation (which most types consider half the fun of a relationship). To complicate matters, INTJs are usually extremely private people, and can often be naturally impassive as well, which makes them easy to misread and misunderstand. Perhaps the most fundamental problem, however, is that INTJs really want people to make sense. :-) This sometimes results in a peculiar naivete', paralleling that of many Fs -- only instead of expecting inexhaustible affection and empathy from a romantic relationship, the INTJ will expect inexhaustible reasonability and directness.
Probably the strongest INTJ assets in the interpersonal area are their intuitive abilities and their willingness to "work at" a relationship. Although as Ts they do not always have the kind of natural empathy that many Fs do, the Intuitive function can often act as a good substitute by synthesizing the probable meanings behind such things as tone of voice, turn of phrase, and facial expression. This ability can then be honed and directed by consistent, repeated efforts to understand and support those they care about, and those relationships which ultimately do become established with an INTJ tend to be characterized by their robustness, stability, and good communications.

Pool Time

When its 100 degrees out its nice to have a pool! Saturday we spent at least a few hours in the pool, its soo hot out and the pool is a very nice relief.  The rest of the day was spent in the air conditioning relaxing and working on some art drawings.  Today is Sunday and we so far have gone grocery shopping to stock up for the week and I have finished my second to last NHRA Drawing, I can't wait till I have them all done.  Tonight we still have to drop my car off at a shop and get a rental car because my car has not been running right.  After we do that its time to watch breaking bad our favorite show!

I love looking back at my blog and seeing what I did a year ago or several years ago on the same day!
Its very weird to see how much life changes in just a few years.

Being Afraid.

Friday, September 6: A story about a time you were very afraid.

Well this is hard because I am afraid of everything lol.  Mostly the things I am afraid of  are ridiculous and can't hurt me like small spiders, bugs and situations that are not really happening like being afraid of the dark.

One story I can think of where I was really afraid but it ended up being funny was when we were in Australia a few years ago.  My now husband was trying to show me how to surf and I just wasn't getting it, I couldn't even stay on the board laying down.  So eventually he gave up on me and he swam in leaving me with this huge surf board that I couldn't seem to stay on.  Then he starts screaming something to me from the beach and I couldn't hear him, but of course I immediately jumped to thinking he was saying there was a shark.  So I started to panic and swim as hard as I could with this stupid surf board trailing behind me.  When I finally got in I was choking on water and couldn't breath.  I asked him what was it, he says oh nothing I was just afraid you were maybe getting stuck in a rip tide!  I was sooo pissed!  I had just about killed myself freaked out thinking there was a shark behind me and come to find out it was nothing!  Lets just say I will never be surfing again at least not with him as my teacher!

On this same trip there was another time I was deathly afraid, we were walking down a path when I heard a loud noise and I imagined a kangaroo was coming after us in the bush and again I ran like a spastic through the tall grass cause then I was afraid of possible snakes, turned out to be nothing, but Grant got a really good laugh, he was laughing so hard he couldn't breath!
