Emmett's First Birthday

Yesterday we celebrated Emmett's first birthday!  We had a small car themed party at our house.
Everyone had a great time.  For lunch we had bbq chicken sandwiches and cupcakes for desert.
Emmett did a great job of staying awake but finally after opening the gifts he just couldn't do it anymore. We did the pin the number on the car game, a race car game, a ball in the bin game, and the big boys played kick and throw the ball while the little kids blew bubbles in the back yard.
Get ready for lots of pictures below.

Emmett loved eating the card the most lol.

My mom was the biggest help of all!  Without her we would not have had it all done in time.

Emmett loved the bubbles! All the kids loved them.

A really awesome day!

Birthday Eve

Well tonight is the night before Emmett's first birthday, its really hard for me to believe it has been a whole year.  Last year at this time I was sleeping and getting ready to wake up with contraction pains.  Crazy!  Anyways we spent the whole day getting ready for the small party we are having tomorrow and I know Emmett is excited.  After his nap today he came down and saw the decorations and just looked around and started talking (its jiberish, but for him its talking).

He is really not a baby anymore which makes me a little sad, but also very happy.  With every stage there has been something new and fun happening and there will always be something to look forward to.  Little Emmett you have changed our lives!

Here he is a year ago

and here he is now.

Weekend and Valentines Day

The week flew by because we have been really busy.  This picture cracks me up cause Emmett is growing so fast his smaller clothes barely fit.  I loved these overalls and sadly he didn't get enough wear out of them.

First Valentines Day! Took me about 20 min to get a picture of him smiling.

Worked on some new art.
Sunday we spent the day getting flowers and working on the yard.  Grant made this beautiful flower box.

The yard looks great.

Park Time

Today we went to the park.  Now that Emmett can really walk on his own, the park is so much more fun.  This park was awesome because it has soft ground so when he does fall he is okay.

It was weird watching him walk around on his own with other kids his size with his shoes on.  It was like seeing a big kid.  He absolutely loved it.  I can see how interacting with other kids will get interesting, one little kid tried to give a kiss that started turning into a bite lol, but I know kids are kids.

Drive that train!
PS it was soo freaking hot!  I was sweating!  Next park day I will wear summer clothes.

Abstract Art

We have an ugly wall fan in our living room that we don't use anymore and we don't want to spend the money to remove it so I wanted to come up with a way to cover it.  I decided to do a piece of abstract art because we have so much art of "things" landscapes and pictures that I just wanted something simple that would bring in some color.

Grant is going to make a custom frame out of reclaimed wood, that I plan to paint bright white.

I can't wait till its up on the wall!

What I Wore and Baby Proofing

Today I am doing What I Wore Wednesday, but really this outfit is from a week or 2 ago because this week all I have worn is pajamas or jeans and t-shirts.  I am currently trying to baby proof the house the best way I can without drilling holes into everything and spending a million dollars.  I have seen a few ways to baby proof using the toy rings and such, but I think I will have to go out and buy some stuff today.  Emmett has gone to pulling really hard on the tv stand and I am afraid that the tv will come crashing down on him.  Soo I will be purchasing the tv straps and possibly a way to keep the cupboards shut.  The word no means nothing to him at all lol.  When I say it he looks at me and smiles hahhahaha.

New Curtains

We finally got curtains for our back door.  The sun beats in through this window and it makes perfect sense to have curtains, but for some reason I always thought curtains would make this area look messy and crowded.  Turns out to be the opposite!  Now that we have the curtains up the room actually looks more finished.  I am so happy we decided on a pattern too, at first we were going to go with a solid grey and luckily the store was out so we tried this pattern.  It brings so much character to the room.
We also got this roll down shade from ikea that helps block out the blinding sun.  The great thing about this is when its rolled up you can't even see it.
Only took us 2 years and my mom having 2 migraines from this sun that finally got us on the road to getting proper window coverings!

Emmett and Mama

My mom finally found my baby book from when I was 11 months.  So now I can see what I was doing at the same age Emmett is at now.  Its pretty crazy how close we are at doing all the same things.  We were both walking at 10 months and both had lots of teeth.
Here is a comparison at 11 months.

Here is a video of our baby the genius (lol at least in our eyes) I actually have no idea what a kid at this age should be able to do hahahaha.
